About KeepLaxStats

KeepLaxStats is a labor of love started by Jennifer Vogel. May you use this site and its resources to keep boys lacrosse statistics accurate and consistent - for your team, your conference, your league, your state.

Find my story below. I appreciate your help and volunteerism to make lacrosse possible for boys and girls. I ask that you do your best when keeping statistics. And please show good sportsmanship to the opponent and game officials while keeping score and/or time.

And most of all you’ll find that the love of the sport keeps us all united as we honor the Game.

Keeper of the Game

I'm the short blonde in the middle here! Syracuse grad, lacrosse parent and humbled Keeper of the Game. I'm a creative dare devil, mentor and marketeer professionally and all-in lacrosse fanatic, complements of my son, Jon Vogel (Holy Cross '17) and support of my husband, Steve.

How did you get started?

I heard "This game won'e be played unless someone keeps the clock" at a youth game. I stepped up. How hard could it be, I thought. No way we would  lose due to no one keeping the clock. Not on my watch.

No lacrosse background. No fear. I pressed start, waited until the blare of the buzzer deafened me, with panic hit stop and repeated the actions for the next period. Keeping the clock got real boring by the second game. By the next weekend, I was tracking goals and save. I was hooked.

What inspired you to create the training?

By the time Jon hit high school, the discrepancies in stat reporting astounded me. The local programs needed consistent, accurate, uniform definitions and reporting. Plus the midline seat at the game always ensured a clear view of the game, one where I could be a student of the game. During-the-Game stats quickly became very important to the coaches.

Where and when did you start?

In 2012, through Parkway West Lacrosse (Missouri), I extended my scoring methodology and shared training to the greater St. Louis boys lacrosse community. In 2014, the in-person training extended westward to Columbia, MO and beyond. Today, clubs and organizations coast to coast (a few notables: Utah, NorCal, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Florida, Georgia) have found it online and requested permission to use it.

Share a few highlights and the impact of this methodology.

  • Creating the next wave of informed enthusiasts. Seeing parents connecting with their boys through the game. Plus the extended "lacrosse family" that's been created.

  • Witnessing "truth" in stats through objectivity for performance awards

  • Appointed the official scorer of the 2014 FIL World Championships (Semi-Finals and Final games), I could not be been more honored.

  • President's Award - STLMO Chapter

  • Men's Commitment Award - STLMO Chapter

  • St. Louis - Missouri Chapter of US Lacrosse Executive Board (2012-2017) | Member at Large (2019 - 2020) | Chapter Exec Board (2020 - 2021)

  • Co-Founder Route 66 Lacrosse, LLC

What's next?

Each year I aspire to mentor new parents and new programs. I update the guide based on feedback from stats class students, stewards of the game as well as from USA Lacrosse and NFHS.

Should I mention the 2028 Olympic Games - perhaps a seat the midline there?!
